Clemson's big recruiting weekend, as expected, made a tremendous impact on the 2010 class.
Harbison, Tigers check on Georgia DB
And that could open the door for Roswell (GA) Centennial HS cornerback Martin Jenkins to step in and make an impact on special teams. The 2010 Clemson commit returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns this season, leading Centennial to a berth in the state playoffs.
Jenkins scored a seven other touchdowns rushing and receiving and grabbed four interceptions.
Defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison stopped by the school on Tuesday to meet with Jenkins, who's ranked as a three star prospect and the No. 88 cornerback in the nation by Scout.com.
"He wasn't able to come by my house because my parents weren't there. I think next week he will be," Jenkins told CUTigers. "He just came to my school and I ate lunch with him."
The two chatted for a while as Harbison answered questions for Jenkins, who's set an official visit for Tigertown on the weekend of Jan. 9.
Since Jenkins committed to Clemson in August, he's been paying a lot of attention to the Tigers.
"Especially since there's a new head coach, I think they did a lot better than people thought they would," he said. "In my opinion, they did very well--making it to the ACC Championship.
"I thought they did very well this season. I can't wait to get there."
A few weeks ago, Auburn coaches dropped by Centennial to see Jenkins and to inquire about the seriousness of his commitment.
"I told him I'm pretty strong with Clemson," Jenkins said.
