The Clemson coaching staff continues to build on an already impressive 2010 recruiting class as this…
Clemson DT target evaluating options
Wadesboro-Anson HS (NC) defensive tackle Tra Thomas enjoyed his first practice of the week.
"We're trying to be a good team-oriented, tight unit and get it done," he said.
What's the norm every year during Shrine Bowl week, the players visited the Shriner's Hospital.
"We got to help the young kids, give them a happy day," he said. "It went pretty good."
Thomas told CUTigers that he's considering Clemson, Duke, West Virginia, Georgia and Michigan State. That's the order of his favorites. He'll be on an official visit to Clemson on Jan. 8 and to Duke on Jan. 15. He took an official to Michigan State for the Penn State weekend.
After his two visits in January, Thomas said he'll make his decision.
"Those are my two favorites at the moment," he said.
When he's on the two trips, Thomas said he's going to be keeping an eye on the atmosphere and whether he could picture himself there. This past season, he was in Tigertown for the Boston College game and visited Duke for twice.
Thomas likes the tradition of rubbing Howard's Rock and running down the hill before the game.
"It's pretty great," he said.
Clemson defensive tackle coach Dan Brooks stopped through Wadesboro last Tuesday to visit Thomas and his parents. He said coaches from Duke and East Carolina were in town to see him and his parents.
"Me and Dan Brooks have a great relationship, a great bond," Thomas said. "He's a great coach. I like the atmosphere, the staff, how they do things. Their defense is what we run at our high school, so I can blend in really well."
His Anson teammate Brandon Ellerbe is a already a 2011 Clemson commit. That commitment doesn't make a difference in which direction Thomas chooses.
"It'd be good if we go down together…I'm still going with my decision. We're both blessed. I'm pretty happy for him," Thomas said.
Focused on Saturday's game, he doesn't care to make a prediction for Saturday.
"We're going in like dogs. I'd rather show it than predict," Thomas said.
Scout.com rates him as a two-star prospect and the No. 105 defensive tackle in the nation for the class of 2010.
