The Clemson coaching staff landed another big verbal commitment for the 2011 recruiting class Friday…
Another commitment on the horizon?
ATH Robert Smith Profile The Clemson coaching staff picked up the verbal commitment of one of the top players in South Carolina for the class of 2011 Monday afternoon when Chester quarterback Tony McNeal gave his pledge to head coach Dabo Swinney. There could be another one directly on the horizon - this time from another quarterback/athlete who could play a number of positions at the next level. "Georgia and Duke have been keeping in contact with me. Miami, North Carolina State and Maryland and a couple more," said Woodland HS athlete Robert Smith, who recently caught up with CUTigers. "Some schools are telling me I can play quarterback. Some said athlete." Clemson is the only school to date that's offered. "Lately, I've been really thinking about Clemson," Smith said. "There's a good chance I could commit to them. They've been on my mind a whole lot." The first offer, combined with the way he and his father have been received on each visit have really made an impression. "Every time I go and visit, they always know who I am. When my father goes, they talk to him," he said. "It's a great place. I've always loved Clemson growing up. "It's a good chance that I could commit to them. I'm not going to say I'm going to commit yet, but there's a good chance." Smith said Clemson coaches told him that he'd get looks at quarterback, where he said he'd like to get a chance. If that doesn't work out, the 6-feet, 195-pound athlete would find himself at another position, he said could be wide receiver or somewhere on defense. Unless Smith picks up any offers in the near future, he'll be committing to Clemson very soon. "There are two schools that have been on my mind the most. That's Clemson and Georgia," he said. "Those are the two that I've always been looking at the most."
