A recent offer from Georgia Tech has this Atlanta-based Clemson commitment considering an official…
Change of heart
A phone call from head coach Dabo Swinney and an in-home visit from defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison have 2010 Clemson commit Darius Robinson rethinking his previous decision to take other official visits.
CUTigers spoke to Westlake High School cornerback Darius Robinson a few hours after he'd declared that he might be taking official visits to his hometown school--Georgia Tech, and/or Auburn.
"Coach Swinney just let me know that a commitment is a commitment. If I was going to look elsewhere, then they would do the same," Robinson said. "He said he really wanted me in the class. He said I was a leader in the class, therefore I should be setting an example, rather than trying to visit other schools."
Robinson admitted he'd thought about it before, and he understood "where Swinney was coming from." Respecting Clemson's needs in the recruiting class, Robinson knew how tough it would be on the Tigers to replace him if he decided to switch commitments last minute.
"It would be kind of disrespectful to the program. I'm not going to take any other visits. Clemson is the place where I want to be," he said. "I'm pretty sure of that after my conversation with coach Swinney and my visit with coach Cheese."
According to Robinson, the visit with Harbison was "a little more personal" than the phone call from Swinney.
"Me and (Harbison) have such a good relationship," Robinson said.
On Sunday night, Harbison told Robinson that he'd be through Atlanta in a day. It surprised Robinson that he got there when he did, which was around 2 p.m. Harbison spoke to both Robinson and his father.
"I'm pretty much done with the recruiting process. I'm set on Clemson--no visits," Robinson said. "The Clemson fans can stop worrying so much."
