Clemson two-sport athlete Kyle Parker ranked in the top 25 in the nation in four statistical categories in 2010 according to final statistics released by the NCAA.

Kyle Parker was one of four Tigers ranked in the top 25 of at least one category.

Parker, who was a first-round draft choice of the Colorado Rockies in June, finished fifth in the nation in total runs scored with 85. It also ranked as the fifth highest total in school history. Parker was also 15th in the nation in walks with 56, the sixth highest figure in Clemson history, and 22nd in runs per game with 1.27.

Parker had 20 home runs in 2010 to lead the Clemson team and rank 25th in the nation. He became just the 10th player in Clemson history to hit at least 20 home runs in a season. He also threw 20 touchdown passes for the Clemson football team in the fall and thus became the first athlete in Division I sports history to throw 20 touchdown passes and hit 20 home runs in the same academic year.

Jeff Schaus had 87 RBIs in 2010 to lead the Clemson team and rank fourth in the nation. That is tied for the second most RBIs in a season in Clemson history and was just four short of Khalil Greene’s record of 91 set in 2002. Schaus’s number-four ranking is the highest for a Clemson player in that category since Denny Walling led the nation in that category in 1975.

Senior co-captain Mike Freeman ranked 19th in the nation in total hits with 99 and 25th in sacrifice flies with seven. Shortstop Brad Miller ranked 23rd in the nation in total walks with 50. He finished the season as Clemson’s top hitter with a .357 average.

As a team, Clemson finished the season ranked in the top 20 of eight different categories. Clemson was second in the nation in total double plays with 81 and sixth on a per game basis at 1.16. The Tigers were also third in the nation in total walks (375), fifth in total runs scored (600), fifth in sacrifice flies (42), eighth in total hits (764), 15th in home runs (93) and 19th in runs per game (8.6).

The 600 runs scored were the third most in school history, and the home run total was fourth.
