Riding the summer momentum
Now ranked the No. 28 ranked quarterback by Scout.com, McNeal started things off in June at the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. He looked impressive while throwing to future Clemson teammate Charone Peake and Tiger prospect Sammy Watkins.
McNeal later quarterbacked the Southeast team at the Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 in July, leading the squad to a 4-0 record. He spent plenty of time recruiting Clemson linebacker target Tony Steward, one of his teammates on the Southeast team.
"I told him he needs to come down there with me and it would be a good fit for him," McNeal said. "I was just talking about that the whole time we were down there."
The focus is now shifted to his senior season. Chester opens the 2010 campaign against Abbeville on Friday night at Newberry College. McNeal, who has his site set on the state championship, knows he can't get too far ahead of himself.
"We're going to take every game one by one and just focus on that team instead of focusing on the big goals," he said. "You know you're going to have in the back of your mind that you want to win the state championship game. First, you've got to take it one game at a time. We're going to focus on this game and this game only."
The 2011 Clemson commit said the knee's doing just fine and that it's held up well so far through the preseason.
"We had a jamboree last Friday. If felt good. My knee felt strong. I was glad to be back out there playing," McNeal said.
In three series against Great Falls, he threw a pair of touchdown passes, one for 57 yards and another for 18.
He completed 128-of-206 passes for 1,700 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior. As a sophomore, McNeal completed 240-of-426 passes for 3,533 yards and 37 touchdowns.
