Brian Mance figures to be one the most important members of the Tigers' secondary this fall. He'll likely also continue to see significant time as a punt returner. Good cornerback with decent size and solid recovery speed. Mance ranked in the top 30 in the nation in punt returns and kickoff returns in 2001- ranked 27th in punt returns with a 13.2 average and 30th in kickoff returns with 24.5 average. Recorded 3 interceptions last year.
High School
Had 119 tackles and seven interceptions as a senior playing for Manning High School (AAA runner-up in '98)...also rushed for 758 yards with 10 touchdowns in '98 as a senior...#4 ranked player in South Carolina and #11 defensive back prospect in the nation according to SuperPrep...#82 player in the nation by Student Sports...All-America selection by SuperPrep...preseason and postseason All-American, and #7 defensive back prospect in the Southeast by Southeastern Recruiting Alliance...one of the top 30 players and #4 defensive back prospect in ACC Region by PrepStar...Shrine Bowl selection and one of five finalists for the Mr. Football Award in South Carolina...All-State selection and AAA Defensive Player-of-the-Year in the state by High School Sports Report...Sumter Area Defensive Player-of-the-Year as a senior... team captain as a junior and senior...blocked a punt and recovered the ball for a touchdown in the AAA state championship game as a senior. |
