| Biography: |
| OVERVIEW: Starting cornerback in every game each of the last two years, Butler had a strong year with four interceptions for 142 return yards and now has 196 return yards for his career. His 142 yards in 2008 rank third best in Clemson history for one year and his 196 career return yards rank third best behind former teammate Michael Hamlin. He enhanced those numbers with a 63-yard interception return against Nebraska in the Gator Bowl. Butler had three tackles, a PBU and a tackle for lossto go with that 63-yard interception return. Butler had a streak of 26 consecutive starts and is a big reason Clemson has been in the Top 10 in the nation in scoring defense each of the past two years. He is sixth on the defense in tackles (52), another reason Clemson is in the Top 10 for scoring defense and passing deffense. Butler has 10 career interceptions, most among active Tigers. He recorded four interceptions in 2008 after getting three each as a freshman and sophomore. He finished the 2008 season 11th in the ACC and 53rd in the nation in interceptions per game. Butler has played 39 consecutive games and has 21 career passes defended. Third among starting defensive backs in tackles, Butler had a season-high eight tackles and an interception against N.C> State. He had four tackles and a 48-yard interception return against S.C. State, he also had six tackles and two pass breakups at #21 Wake Forest and, perhaps, had his best all-around game at Virginia when he had seven tackles, all first hits, a tackle for loss, and a 31-yard interception return; that was perhaps the key play of the game, as the interception set up a field goal that put the game out of reach. He had three tackles, his first career sack, and a caused fumble in 50 snaps against South Carolina. Butler had the first tow punt returns of his career in 2008, one for 15 yards against The Citadel and a 12-yard return against Duke. He has two career recovered fumbles and 12 career takeaways, 10 interceptions and two fumble recoveries. |
