Perimeter player who has chance to move into the starting lineup this year…has a chance to help at point guard, second guard or the three spot… started consecutive games early in his freshman season, including the win at Penn State…highly recruited player who is brother of former Clemson player Tony Christie, who earned his degree from Clemson last summer and is now playing in Europe…Tony played on four Clemson post-season teams, including three NCAA teams…Chey has ability to slash to the hoop and score…needs to improve his consistency from the outside, but he did have flashes of brilliance in his freshman year, just check game at Duke, his first ACC game when he scored 21 points in 22 minutes…played in Global Games for the United States team in summer of 2001 prior to coming to Clemson…mature player who has lived in different areas around the United States and around the world, as his father was a chief master sergeant in the Air Force.
Started his first-year freshman year strong and finished strong, an ankle injury limited his success in the middle...hit 23-46 from the field and scored 81 points over the first 10 games of the season...he was averaging near double figures entering the games at Christmas break…scored 59 points and had 11 assists over the last 10 games of the season...scored just 19 points in the middle 10 games when the ankle gave him problems…he was slowed by the injury, but still found a way to play in every game...made just 6 of 28 from the field during that middle 10 game stretch when he was injured…four of his five highest scoring games came on the road... shot 48.3 percent on opponent’s home courts...made 39 percent of three-point shots on the road…averaged 7.8 points per game on the road and 4.3 at home.

Ranked as 39th best incoming freshman in the nation by Prep Stars…ranked 35th by Hoop Scoop…consensus Top 50 incoming freshman in the nation for 2001-02…played his final two years of high school at Biloxi High in Biloxi, MS after playing his sophomore year in Las Vegas and his freshman year in Connecticut …first-team all-state selection in Mississippi in 2001…averaged 26.4 points and eight rebounds per game his senior year of high school…had four games of at least 30 points over his last month of high school basketball…led his high school team to a 28-10 record and the state class 5A championship…scored 24 points in the title game, leading Biloxi to its first state championship in 11 years. |
